Advice and guidance on installation and configuration
Included on the CD, and also available for download (see Download section) is a simple Getting started guide. Typically the process is covered in this document and should be straightforward.
Most users with a single computer will install the software to a local computer and run it as a standalone application with local database. The database is currently in the Microsoft ® Jet format. However, for multiple users the database can be relocated to a network server for protection and sharing.
Requirements
- Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or Vista
- SVGA Resolution (800 x 600) - higher recommended
- 256 Colours
- 20Mb Hard Disk Space (50Mb during installation)
- Web Browser (i.e. Microsoft® Internet Explorer® version 5.5 or higher for reports.)
Notes
- IMPORTANT: You must install the software with full Administrator privilege on Windows NT/2000 or XP
- Included with the installation program, are all the files necessary to run Microsoft® Data Access Components. During setup, the installer will determine if you have the necessary minimum version (MDAC 2.6 or higher) and install it as required.
- If you have Microsoft® Office installed, support is now included in the product for generating documents and transfer data in office documents (typically Word or Excel)
- You will need to complete the registration during installation or on first execution of the software to initiate the license. This can be performed online (quickest) or via email.
- If you are wishing to install a client as an extension to a previous networked installation then you will need details of the location of the database and the administrator password for the software installation.
- In some network installations, the registry is protected against modification using security permissions. See FAQ article on registry permissions. In these instances, the software functions properly under an administrator logon, but normal users experience errors during software startup.
- For full functionality, you will need a MAPI32 compliant email client (i.e Microsoft® Outlook), Web browser (to view HTML Reports) and a Printer.
During setup the defaults are
- C:\Program Files\CRS Risk for the application folder
- C:\Program Files\CRS Risk\Database for the database folder
When the software is installed completely a registration process is launched. At this stage, you can elect to join an existing network installation or register the product only on the local machine.
Network Installation
The first client must be initially installed as standalone, in order to complete registration and licensingPrior to moving the database to a shared folder, ensure the following is true:
- The location is availalbe to ALL clients to use the software, and have read AND write permissions, i.e. H:\Database\ (UNC paths are now supported to ease administration)
- Each client will have full read/write permissions to the folder
Moving the database to a shared folder
- Log on as the administrator (SYS) with password of : password
Remember to change this as soon as possible - Close the Corporate Profile (button top left on toolbar), and click Maintenance on the menu, then Database, and Locate Database.
- Browse to the new folder (ensure it is a networked and shared folder where a backup is taken regularly) and click OK.
Remaining network clients
In the final stage of registration, click Yes when asked to join an existing network installation. You will need to supply the location of the database (click Browse to search) or enter the folder location directly, and the administrator password. (The database file is called CRSDATA.MDB).
The folder must use a mapped drive letter (for all version support.) and be the same as that used to move the database initially.
Follow the remaining prompts to complete the process. If you have difficulty locating the database, or are not sure of the correct location, please consult your network administrator or software administrator for assistance.
Standalone Installation
If you are installing the software for a standalone PC, then say No to joining the network. A registration screen will be presented requiring only 2 items of information, contact name and company. Please Note: If you downloaded the software, please ensure you use the details provided in the confirmation Email for Contact, Company and License Key If you have not already obtained a license key via email (download users only), then please click Generate on the screen. If you have a currently active internet connection, the software will register your details and return a license key automatically for you.
